(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that supporting micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remained one of the Royal Government’s top priorities, describing the sector as a key driver of employment and economic growth.
The premier spoke on Saturday (Jun. 27) during a gathering with Cambodia’s small, medium and handicraft enterprises on Saturday (Jun. 27).
“Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are key economic players. Around the world, the vast majority of businesses are SMEs, and they create the most jobs and generate substantial income. Cambodia is no exception,” he said.
Samdech Thipadei urged SMEs to strengthen their competitiveness improving product quality, ensuring food safety and maintaining reasonable prices to expand market share and compete with imported goods.
He also called on Cambodian consumers to continue supporting locally owned businesses, saying domestic demand is essential to the sector’s long-term growth.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei noted that Cambodia, as a relatively small economy, cannot expect to attract the same volume of multinational corporations as larger countries. Instead, he said the country should focus on integrating its SMEs into global supply chains, including through the production of automotive components and other export-oriented manufacturing.
He underscored that supporting the private sector, particularly SMEs, has remained a central priority under both the previous and current administrations.
Meanwhile, the prime minister added that the government continues to provide tax incentives, policy support and other preferential measures, especially for SMEs engaged in manufacturing and production supply chains.
