(Phnom Penh): President of the Cambodian People's Party Hun Sen’s official goodwill visit to China was made at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping in his capacity as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, reflecting the highest level of party-to-party relations, according to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday (Jun. 27) on the outcomes of the visit, Chea Thyrith said Samdech Techo Hun Sen was invited as President of the Cambodian People’s Party, underscoring the significance of the visit.

His remarks came after Thai Prime Minister Anutin reportedly highlighted his planned visit to China next month. Chea Thyrith said Anutin and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet are both expected to attend the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in July, but stressed that Senate President Hun Sen’s trip is distinct because it followed a direct invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“The nature and level of Samdech Techo’s visit should be clear,” Chea Thyrith said, noting that Chinese President Xi and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen met as leaders of their respective ruling parties.
