(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the Ministries of Interior of Cambodia, Public Security of Laos, and Public Security of Viet Nam to continue strengthening and expanding their cooperation.

The prime minister made the remarks on Tuesday morning (Jun. 30) while receiving Lieutenant General Vanthong Kongmany, Minister of Public Security of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and General Lương Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, for a courtesy call and working discussion at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh.

During the meeting, the Lao and Vietnamese ministers highly praised the strong cooperation among the three ministries, noting that it has significantly strengthened and expanded relations and cooperation among Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam.

The two ministers also briefed Prime Minister Hun Manet on the fruitful outcomes of the Second Ministerial Meeting among Cambodia's Ministry of Interior, Laos' Ministry of Public Security, and Viet Nam's Ministry of Public Security, hosted by Cambodia. The three parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing cooperation among the three ministries.

In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the successful outcomes of the second ministerial meeting. He also recalled the long-standing traditional friendship among Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam, highlighting the 70th anniversary of Cambodia-Laos diplomatic relations in 2026 and the upcoming 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Viet Nam diplomatic relations in 2027. He underscored the importance of continuing to strengthen and expand cooperation among the three neighbouring countries.

The three parties also exchanged views on enhancing trilateral security cooperation, particularly by encouraging border provinces to maintain close collaboration to preserve security and to transform border areas into zones of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development. They also agreed to strengthen joint efforts to combat transnational crime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and cyber-enabled fraud.

Before concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Manet encouraged the three ministries to continue deepening their partnership, noting that stronger security cooperation would also contribute to broader cooperation among the three countries in the fields of economy, trade, and investment.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei called for greater people-to-people exchanges and stronger friendship among the peoples of Cambodia, Laos, and Viet Nam, with particular emphasis on promoting closer ties among the youth of the three countries.
