(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy farewell call from Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to the Kingdom of Cambodia, and her delegation at the Peace Palace on Thursday (Jul. 2).
During the meeting, the ambassador congratulated Cambodia on its remarkable progress across all sectors and expressed her satisfaction with the advancement of Cambodia-Philippines relations, which have reached a new level.
She highly valued the close cooperation between the two countries across a wide range of sectors, including the economy and trade, education, vocational training, agriculture, culture, defence, and security.
At the same time, the ambassador congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia on its firm measures to combat online scams and highly commended the excellent cooperation between Cambodia and the Philippines, particularly the close collaboration between the relevant ministries and institutions of the two countries in addressing this challenge.
The ambassador further noted that 2027 will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the Philippines, providing an important opportunity for both countries to further strengthen and expand their bilateral relations. She also highlighted that the ASEAN Observers Team (AOT), led by the Philippines, would continue to carry out its mission with transparency and neutrality.
In response, Samdech Thipadei congratulated the ambassador on the successful completion of her diplomatic mission in Cambodia. He expressed his satisfaction with and high appreciation for the Ambassador’s active contributions to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Samdech Thipadei underscored that Cambodia and the Philippines continue to possess considerable potential and numerous opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of agriculture and tourism.
Samdech Thipadei highly appreciated the Philippines' role, in its capacity as the rotating ASEAN Chair, in facilitating efforts to resolve the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute.
He further briefed the Ambassador on recent developments regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border situation and reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving border disputes peacefully, on the basis of international law and in accordance with the existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
