(Kampong Cham): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said the upgraded National Road No. 7 is the result of policy decisions made by the previous Royal Government under former Prime Minister and current Senate President Hun Sen, describing the project as part of his predecessor's development legacy.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 7) during an official inauguration of National Road No. 7 (Skun-Kampong Cham) in Kampong Cham Province.
"This is the result of the correct decisions made by the previous Royal Government under the leadership of former Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen," Samdech Thipadei said.
The prime minister underlined that the road is part of Cambodia's broader infrastructure strategy and reaffirmed that cooperation with China will continue to deliver new development projects.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasised that roads remain the "lifeblood of the national economy," while the government's long-term transport strategy also prioritises railways, waterways, and air transport under the motto, "Where there are roads, there is hope."
He added that the upgraded National Road No. 7 will strengthen Cambodia's transport network by linking major national highways and strategic economic corridors.
At its western end, the road connects with National Road No. 6 and intersects with National Roads No. 60, No. 70, No. 71, and No. 71C, improving access to Phnom Penh, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, and surrounding areas.
To the east, it links with National Roads No. 8, No. 11, No. 73, No. 76, and No. 78, enhancing connectivity to the northeastern provinces of Prey Veng, Tboung Khmum, Kratie, Stung Treng, Mondulkiri, and Ratanakiri.
The prime minister also acknowledged Japan's earlier support in financing National Road No. 7 as a two-lane asphalt highway in 1999, along with the Cambodia-Japan Friendship Bridge, saying the latest upgrade will better accommodate growing traffic and strengthen regional connectivity.
