(Phnom Penh): Cambodia welcomed two Vietnamese military officers to join the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), reinforcing regional efforts to monitor the ceasefire and promote stability along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, said the officers from Cambodia's Department of International Relations and the Cambodia Liaison Group (CLG) received Colonel Phung Thanh Quang and Colonel Ly Thanh Tam upon their arrival at Techo International Airport at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday (Jul. 9).

The two officers will join the ASEAN Observer Team to observe, verify, and report on the border situation following the implementation of the ceasefire.

The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia's full support for the ASEAN Observer Team, stressing the importance of strengthening its role and mandate to ensure the effective implementation of the ceasefire and other agreed measures between Cambodia and Thailand.

It added that Cambodia's decision to welcome officers from friendly ASEAN countries reflects its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust throughout the peace process.

The ministry also reiterated the Royal Government of Cambodia's firm and unwavering commitment to fully implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) signed on 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on 26 October 2025, and all other relevant agreements.

According to the ministry, these commitments are aimed at accelerating recovery and restoring normalcy, as well as ensuring lasting peace and stability.
