(Phnom Penh): The Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) called on Cambodia and Thailand to ease border tensions, continue dialogue, and immediately withdraw all armed forces from disputed areas, while supporting the peaceful settlement of the dispute as soon as possible.
According to the Resolution on Cambodia's Territorial Integrity, adopted following the APF plenary session held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, on 10-11 July 2026, at the request of its Political Committee, the assembly urged both countries to respect Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, uphold their commitment to sustainable peace along the border, and refrain from any unilateral actions that could further escalate tensions.
The APF also called for full respect for the ceasefire and the implementation of the joint declaration signed by the prime ministers of Cambodia and Thailand in Kuala Lumpur on 26 October 2025.
The assembly expressed deep concern over the continued tensions and reported activities in border areas under Thai occupation, including the construction of civilian and military infrastructure, the organisation of religious ceremonies at cultural and religious sites, and initiatives to allocate land within those areas.
Furthermore, the APF voiced profound regret over the suffering of civilians, as well as the damage to or destruction of cultural heritage, describing such heritage as the common legacy of humanity. It warned that these actions could undermine the prospects for lasting peace and reconciliation.
The assembly reiterated its support for resolving the dispute peacefully at the earliest opportunity through all existing bilateral mechanisms, particularly the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), in a spirit of dialogue and respect for international law.
It also supported the normalisation of relations between Cambodia and Thailand, based on the mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the inviolability of borders, as well as the demarcation of the land boundary in accordance with the legal framework set out in relevant international instruments.
