(Phnom Penh): Cambodia's imports from Singapore reached USD 1.195 billion in the first six months of 2026, a 231 per cent increase year-on-year, primarily due to fuel imports, according to the General Department of Customs and Excise.
Total bilateral trade between Cambodia and Singapore hit USD 1.237 billion from January to June, up 216 per cent from USD 391 million in the same period of 2025.
Cambodia's exports to Singapore also grew by over 36 per cent year-on-year, reaching nearly USD 42 million in the first half of 2026, compared to approximately USD 30 million last year.
Lim Heng, Vice President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, attributed the surge in imports from Singapore to the closure of the Cambodia-Thailand land border, which forced importers to shift their procurements from Thailand to Singapore.
He noted that key import categories from Singapore include fuel, electrical equipment, food products, and various consumer goods. He added that Singapore's role as a strategic regional distribution hub was crucial to the increased trade.
