(Phnom Penh): Cambodia joined the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO) as a founding member to help shape the future of artificial intelligence rather than remain only a user of the technology, Jean-François Tan, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister, said in a press conference on Friday (Jul. 17).
Jean-François Tan said the prime minister's long-term vision is to ensure Cambodia and its youth benefit from AI development by taking part in global AI governance from the outset.
Cambodia signed the WAICO founding agreement in Shanghai on July 16, represented by Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth, alongside delegates from 29 countries and several international organizations.
The organization, proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, aims to promote international cooperation on AI governance and development for the benefit of all countries.
