(Phnom Penh): The Embassy of India in Phnom Penh hosted a send-off interaction programme for 30 Cambodian officials and teachers from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, who will be attending an ITEC training programme in India titled “A Framework for Integrating AI to Enhance STEM Education” from 22 July to 04 August 2026 at the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chennai, India.
The programme was attended by Sann Vathana, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, along with other distinguished guests and participants.
The upcoming training programme on AI integration for STEM education is designed to enhance the teaching capacity of participating educators by strengthening their pedagogical skills and digital competencies. It will provide practical learning on the integration of artificial intelligence frameworks, along with virtual labs, simulations, and collaborative ICT tools, to support learner-centred and future-ready STEM education. The programme will include interactive sessions, hands-on activities, case studies, and group projects.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of India Vanlalvawna Bawitlung underlined the significance of the training programme which aim to integrate AI in the field of STEM education. Reflecting on the long-standing civilizational ties between the two countries, the ambassador reiterated India’s continued commitment to collaborate with Cambodia in the field of education and expressed confidence that the knowledge and experience gained in India through the training programme will contribute to improving education outcomes in Cambodia and will further strengthen cooperation, mutual understanding, and people-to-people ties between the two nations. He encouraged all the participants to remain ambassadors of friendship and bridges of cooperation between India and Cambodia.
The Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme, launched by the Government of India on 15 September 1964, is one of India’s flagship initiatives for technical cooperation and capacity building for partner countries. It is demand-driven and aimed at supporting developing nations through training and development opportunities across a wide range of fields.
Since 1981, more than 3300 Cambodian nationals have participated in ITEC Programmes. Every year, 300 ITEC training slots are being allocated to Cambodian nationals.
