(China): China's Sinopec expressed interest in expanding its presence in Cambodia by exploring business and investment opportunities and forging partnerships with Cambodian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Sinopec Chairman Qian Zhenhua paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on 17 July 2026 on the sidelines of the 2026 World AI Conference.

During the meeting, Qian said Chinese investors and businesses remain confident in Cambodia's economic growth and development, highlighting the country's investment potential, particularly its young, dynamic, and capable workforce.

He also outlined Sinopec's interest in investing in Cambodia and revealed plans by the company and CamTIPA to collaborate with Cambodian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging sectors, including the digital economy, renewable energy, and infrastructure.

In addition, Qian said the association and Sinopec plan to organise a business delegation of Chinese enterprises to visit Cambodia in the near future to explore investment opportunities.

In response, the prime minister welcomed the company's interest in investing in Cambodia and partnering with local SMEs, reaffirming that the SME sector remains a key priority of the Royal Government because of its vital role in driving economic growth and creating jobs.

The prime minister added that the government continues to support SMEs by promoting domestic production of supporting industries to meet growing market demand.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei encouraged Sinopec and CamTIPA to work closely with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions, undertake detailed feasibility studies, and pursue concrete investment opportunities in the kingdom.
