(Phnom Penh): China's Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd. (SCG) expressed its intention to expand its investment in Cambodia's infrastructure sector.

SCG President Ye Weidong paid a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on 17 July 2026 on the sidelines of the 2026 World AI Conference.

During the meeting, Ye briefed the prime minister on SCG's operations in China, international markets, and Cambodia, noting that the company has been active in the Kingdom since 2004. Over the past two decades, SCG has delivered major infrastructure projects, including roads, hydropower dams, bridges, and other key public works.

He added that the company is currently constructing two national highways in Cambodia and is seeking to further expand its investment in the country's infrastructure development.

For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet highly commended SCG for its significant contribution to Cambodia's infrastructure development. He emphasized that infrastructure remains one of the Royal Government's top priorities, with sustained efforts being made to expand and modernize the country's transport and public infrastructure network.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government's continued support for SCG's business operations and project implementation in Cambodia. He also encouraged the company to contribute to the development of the kingdom's workforce by providing training in engineering and infrastructure construction.

He further urged SCG to continue working closely with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to facilitate the successful implementation and expansion of its projects in Cambodia.
