(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a Korean investor delegation led by Kim Chang Yong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, and coordinated by the Korean Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (KOCHAM) and WorldBridge Group, for a courtesy call and working discussion at the Peace Palace on Sunday (Jul. 20).
During the meeting, the Korean ambassador spoke highly of the progress in Cambodia-Republic of Korea relations, which have reached the level of a "strategic partnership."
The Korean investor delegation also expressed strong confidence that Cambodia will continue to achieve strong economic growth and development under Prime Minister Hun Manet's leadership.
The delegation thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its continued support and close cooperation, which has enabled Korean businesses to grow successfully in the Kingdom. It also reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to Cambodia's long-term socio-economic development.
In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the delegation and commended KOCHAM and WorldBridge Group for facilitating the visit.
Samdech Thipadei noted that next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the Republic of Korea. Over the past three decades, bilateral relations have expanded significantly across all sectors, particularly in trade and investment, with Korean businesses making important contributions to Cambodia's economic development.
He welcomed the interest of Korean companies in expanding existing operations and exploring new investment opportunities across Cambodia's high-potential sectors. He also highlighted the Royal Government's ongoing efforts to attract investment through institutional reforms, streamlined administrative procedures, and investment incentives.
The prime minister also reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening connectivity through continued investment in road, waterway, air, and rail infrastructure, while expanding the energy sector to lower production and logistics costs and enhance Cambodia's regional and global competitiveness.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to maintaining a favourable investment climate and encouraged Korean companies to continue working closely with relevant ministries and institutions to seize new investment opportunities and expand their presence in Cambodia.
The Korean delegation comprised representatives from 15 companies operating in key sectors, including automotive, electronics, textiles, distribution and food, finance and banking, construction, and entertainment and culture.
Of the 15 companies, seven are already operating in Cambodia, while six others currently investing in Viet Nam expressed strong interest in relocating or expanding their production bases to Cambodia.
The business visit aims to further strengthen the Cambodia-Republic of Korea strategic partnership, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, and economic cooperation. It also seeks to better understand Cambodia's business environment, identify opportunities for business expansion, and explore new investment prospects for Korean companies.
