(Phnom Penh): On 24 July 2025, following repeated provocations and a sustained series of hostile actions, the Thai military launched an armed attack against Cambodian territory.

Thai forces opened fire on Cambodian troops who were performing their duty to defend Cambodia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and internationally recognized borders. The attack began in the area of the Ta Moan Thom Temple in Oddar Meanchey Province and subsequently spread along the Cambodia–Thailand border.

This act of aggression was neither accidental nor an isolated incident. Nearly two months earlier, on the morning of 28 May 2025, Thai troops entered an area where Cambodian forces were stationed and shot dead a Cambodian soldier, Mr. Suon Roun.

These incidents clearly demonstrate a continuing pattern of provocation, the use of force, and repeated violations of Cambodia’s sovereignty, culminating in the large-scale armed attack of 24 July 2025.

Cambodia did not seek war. However, Cambodia has the full and inherent right to defend its territory, its people, and its sovereignty against any act of external aggression.
