(Phnom Penh): Cambodia secured USD 115 million in financing from the World Bank to accelerate its transition to sustainable energy and strengthen the country's electricity infrastructure.

The financing package includes a USD 110 million concessional credit from the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA) and a USD 5 million grant from the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) to support the Cambodia Sustainable Energy Transition (CSET) Project.

Led by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and Electricity du Cambodge (EDC), the project will finance the construction of battery energy storage systems (BESS), power transmission lines, substations, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, expanded electricity distribution networks, and advanced smart metering systems.

The investment is expected to improve the reliability of Cambodia's electricity supply, expand access to rural communities, accelerate the adoption of clean energy and electric vehicles, and strengthen the country's power infrastructure.

The project will also help reduce operating costs, improve energy efficiency, and support Cambodia's long-term environmental and sustainable development goals.
