(Phnom Penh): Cambodia placed digital transformation, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation at the centre of its engagement with ASEAN's dialogue partners during the ASEAN Post-Ministerial Conference, according to a press release on the outcomes of the meeting seen by Fresh News on Friday (Jul. 24).

During meetings with China, India, Japan, and the Republic of Korea, Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital trade, semiconductor industries, fintech, cybersecurity, technology transfer, smart infrastructure, and innovation partnerships.

Recalling the successful World Artificial Intelligence Conference 9WAIC) and the High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance held in Shanghai in July 2026, Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn welcomed initiatives to strengthen ASEAN-China cooperation on AI, including the proposal to designate 2027 as the ASEAN-China Year of AI Cooperation.

With India, the foreign minister underscored the importance of leveraging India’s strengths in science, technology, and innovation to depend cooperation in the digital economy, AI, semiconductors, fintech, e-commerce, and cybersecurity. while strengthening collaboration in AI, e-commerce, and cybersecurity.

Discussions with Japan focus on digital transformation, AI co-creation, upskilling, digitalisation of small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and investment in future-ready human resources.

Meanwhile, the Cambodian delegation also underscored the potential to deepen cooperation in advanced technology and innovation, building on the Republic of Korea's strengths in these areas, including through technology transfer, innovation partnerships, talent development and capacity-building. Cambodian welcomed the USD 30 million Korea Digital Innovation Flagship Project and encouraged expanded cooperation in smart infrastructure, smart agriculture, renewable energy, creative industries, and other future-oriented sectors.
