(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed General Ith Sarath, Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Joint Staff of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF), to compile a list of front-line soldiers, particularly those who fought in both recent border clashes, for accelerated promotion in recognition of their service.

Speaking on Wednesday (Jul. 29) during a land title certificate distribution ceremony in Khsach Kandal district, Kandal province, the premier said newly enlisted soldiers who have already seen combat should not have to wait the usual promotion period.

"I asked General Ith Sarath to compile the names of our soldiers, especially the young recruits now defending the country's territory, so arrangements can be made for their promotions. Normally, they would have to serve for more than a year. But they have already fought and put their lives on the line. We should do whatever we can to support them," he said.

The prime minister also called for the creation of a special medal for combat service and said the existing National Defence Medal should be awarded to all troops currently deployed to safeguard Cambodia's borders.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei said the promotions and awards are intended to ensure fairness, recognize sacrifice, and boost the morale of troops serving on the front lines, reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening Cambodia's national defence forces.
