(Phnom Penh): The US Embassy in Phnom Penh reaffirmed its support for the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, saying the agreements continue to provide Cambodia and Thailand with practical mechanisms to reduce tensions and prevent a return to armed conflict.

In a statement posted on social media on Wednesday (Jul. 29), the embassy said that while challenges remain, the United States remains committed to solidifying lasting peace between the two neighbouring countries.

“One year ago, fighting along the Cambodia-Thailand border brought tragic loss of life, displaced families, and uncertainty to communities on both sides of the border. Three months later, President Trump brokered the historic Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, which established a diplomatic path for ending the fighting and managing long-standing border issues,” the embassy said.

“While work remains, the Accords continue to provide Cambodia and Thailand with practical tools to reduce tensions and prevent a return to conflict, and the United States remains committed to solidifying lasting peace,” the embassy added.
