(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and the United States (US) agreed to deepen cooperation in combating forest and natural resource crimes by expanding the use of advanced technology to strengthen law enforcement and environmental protection.

The commitment was made during a meeting on Monday (Jul. 3) between Environment Minister Eang Sophalleth and Devineni Udaykiran, Acting Attaché for US Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

During the meeting, the minister reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to protecting natural resources, stressing that all violations are prosecuted without exception. He also highlighted the implementation of the Environmental Sector Circular Strategy, including Greenness 2.1, which focuses on forest restoration and expansion, supported by advanced monitoring systems.

On the occasion, Udaykiran commended the ministry's ongoing efforts and reaffirmed HSI's commitment to supporting Cambodia through technical capacity building and the deployment of advanced technologies to strengthen the fight against environmental crime and promote the sustainable management of natural resources.
