(Phnom Penh): The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) on Thursday (Aug. 6) visited a civilian area in Sra'aem Village, Preah Vihear Province, as part of its mission to observe, verify, and report on the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

According to Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, the visit was coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) and took place at 8:30 a.m. in North Sra'aem Village, Sra'aem Commune, Choam Ksan District.

The spokesperson said the site is a residential area inhabited by civilians and not a military position. According to the ministry, the village was attacked by Thai military forces in December 2025 through F-16 airstrikes and 155mm artillery shelling, causing extensive damage to homes, civilian infrastructure, and private property.

The ministry said Cambodia has consistently extended its full cooperation to the ASEAN Observer Team and continues to support a stronger role for the mission in verifying compliance with the ceasefire, while promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust between the two sides.

It also reaffirmed the Royal Government's commitment to fully implementing the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) issued on 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on 26 October 2025, and all other relevant bilateral agreements.

According to the ministry, Cambodia remains committed to supporting the ceasefire process and promoting the rapid restoration of normalcy, as well as lasting peace and stability along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
