(Phnom Penh): The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) donated USD 100,000 to the Red Cross Society of China to support relief efforts for communities affected by severe flooding caused by Typhoon Noul.

The donation and a letter of condolence were presented on Thursday (Aug. 6) by CRC Secretary General Pum Chantinie to Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin at the Chinese Embassy in Phnom Penh.

In a message shared on social media, Ambassador Wang expressed his sincere appreciation to Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, and the CRC for the humanitarian contribution.

"We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Samdech Kittipritthbindit Bun Rany Hun Sen and the Cambodian Red Cross for donating USD 100,000 to China to help those affected by Typhoon Noul,” Ambassador Wang said.

“Mutual assistance is a long-standing and fine tradition between China and Cambodia. We are willing to work with Cambodia to carry forward this tradition and join hands to overcome future difficulties and challenges,” he added.

During the meeting, Ambassador Wang also invited the Cambodian Red Cross to send a delegation on an official visit to the Red Cross Society of China and conveyed his best wishes to Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen.

On behalf of the Cambodian Red Cross, Pum Chantinie conveyed Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen's condolences to the Chinese people affected by the disaster, which caused widespread property damage, displaced nearly 900,000 people, and resulted in deaths and injuries.

She also highlighted China's longstanding support for Cambodia, particularly its assistance during the COVID19 pandemic.
