(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call from Malaysian Defence Minister Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin at the Peace Palace on Friday (Aug. 7), with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.

During the meeting, the Malaysian defence minister underscored Cambodia as a close and trusted friend of Malaysia, expressing his hope that the visit would translate shared commitments into concrete cooperation, particularly in the defence sector.

He also reaffirmed Malaysia’s continued support for Cambodia through defence training programmes and future cooperation in peacekeeping, maritime security, non-traditional security challenges, and the application of artificial intelligence in defence.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the growing defence partnership and expressed appreciation for Malaysia’s role in facilitating the Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire and supporting the ASEAN Observer Team mechanism.

Samdech Thipadei also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment and position to pursue a peaceful resolution of border issues based on international law and in accordance with existing conventions, treaties, and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
