(Phnom Penh): The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) on Tuesday (Aug. 11) visited Techo Morakot Primary School in Preah Vihear Province to observe and verify damage caused during the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict in December 2025.

According to Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, the field visit was coordinated by the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) and led by the AOT-KH Head of Mission from the Philippines.

The delegation arrived at the school in Techo Morakot Village, Morakot Commune, Choam Ksan District, at approximately 10:20 a.m. to conduct observation, verification, and reporting on the situation.

According to the spokesperson, the Techo Morakot Primary School is an educational facility for children. However, in December 2025, severe attacks by the Thai military, carried out via F-16 fighter jet aerial bombardments and 155mm artillery strikes targeting this civilian site, caused near-total destruction and damage to the school buildings, equipment, and infrastructure, leaving all the young children there unable to return to school to this day.

The ministry reaffirmed the Royal Government of Cambodia’s firm, sincere, and unwavering commitment to fully and faithfully respect and implement the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on 27 December 2025, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on 26 October 2025, and all other relevant agreements.

The ministry added that this commitment is made with the aim of ensuring rapid recovery and restoring normalcy, and long-lasting peace and stability.
