(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), instructed the party to ensure that at least one female candidate is placed in an electable position in every commune and Sangkat nationwide for the upcoming commune/Sangkat council elections.

Speaking during a meeting with the Cambodian National Council for Women on Friday (Aug. 14), Samdech Techo also called for greater female representation on candidate lists for provincial, municipal, and district councils.

The CPP president noted that while women are frequently included on candidate lists, they are often placed in positions with limited prospects of securing seats. He therefore instructed party leaders to structure candidate lists strategically to ensure that at least one woman has a realistic opportunity to be elected in every commune and Sangkat.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo also underlined the importance of early preparation, calling for capable female leaders to be identified, trained, and equipped with the skills needed to effectively serve their local communities.
