(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced that a new dormitory for underprivileged female university students in Phnom Penh is more than 70 percent complete and will soon provide accommodation for over 500 students.

Speaking during a meeting with the Cambodian National Council for Women on Friday (Aug. 14), Samdech Techo urged the Royal Government and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to continue prioritising student housing, particularly for female students who move from rural provinces to Phnom Penh to pursue higher education.

He underlined that expanding access to safe and affordable accommodation is essential to improving educational opportunities for women, noting the significant progress Cambodia has made from earlier periods when women faced greater barriers to education.

The four-storey dormitory is being constructed on two hectares of land donated in 2025 in Chroy Changvar and is designed to accommodate 504 female students across 126 rooms.

The complex will also feature kitchens, bathrooms, medical services, and sports facilities, providing students with a safe and supportive living environment while pursuing their university studies in the capital.
