(Phnom Penh): Cambodia and Lithuania agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in media, trade, digital technology, education and investment following an official diplomatic mission by Cambodian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Chea Chanboribo to Lithuania on Thursday (Aug. 20).

During meetings with Lithuanian officials, the ambassador reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to peace, international law, diplomacy and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Both sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, clean energy, cybersecurity, GovTech, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges while seeking stronger links under the Cambodia-EU and ASEAN-EU frameworks.

A key area of cooperation is the media sector. Cambodia proposed formal linkages between national media outlets in both countries to facilitate content sharing, journalist exchanges and professional visits.

The two sides also explored joint efforts to combat fake news and disinformation through fact-checking, media literacy, journalism training and artificial intelligence tools to identify misleading information.

During the mission, Chea Chanboribo presented his credentials to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and conveyed greetings from Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni.

On the economic front, Cambodia underscored export opportunities for rice, cashews, pepper, coffee and processed agricultural products while inviting Lithuanian investment in agro-industry, clean energy, FinTech, cybersecurity and logistics.

Both countries also discussed direct business connections and future trade missions, positioning Cambodia as a gateway to ASEAN and Lithuania as an entry point to the European Union.
