(Kratie): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Ministry of Rural Development to reassess road maintenance budgets, stressing that preserving existing infrastructure is just as important as building new roads.

Speaking at the inauguration of three road sections in Kratie on Tuesday (Aug. 25), the prime minister said adequate funding and regular maintenance are essential to ensuring that completed roads remain safe, functional, and durable over the long term.

The prime minister warned that newly constructed roads could deteriorate within only a few years if routine maintenance is neglected. He urged relevant authorities to identify and repair potholes and other damage promptly before they develop into larger and more costly problems.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also praised Pursat Governor Khoy Rida for taking a hands-on approach to repairing damaged roads in his jurisdiction, citing his initiative as an example of proactive local leadership and responsibility for maintaining public infrastructure.
