(Phnom Penh): Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin presided over a reception for Cambodian students preparing to pursue their studies in China, expressing hope that they will acquire knowledge and skills, build lasting friendships, and contribute to Cambodia’s national development upon their return.

The 2026 Reception for Cambodian Students to Study in China was held on Wednesday (Aug. 26) at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, with the participation of Cambodian education officials, students, graduates, representatives of the Chinese Embassy, and other guests.

Cambodian Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport Om Romny also presided over the ceremony.

“From the banks of the Mekong River to the shores of the Yangtze River, and from Angkor Wat to the Great Wall, these students are bound for a brand-new journey in life,” Ambassador Wang said.

The ambassador expressed hope that the students will make the most of their time in China by gaining knowledge, developing professional skills, and fostering friendships with people from China and other countries.

He also encouraged them to bring their knowledge and experience home after graduation and contribute to Cambodia’s continued development.

Ambassador Wang reaffirmed the Chinese Embassy’s commitment to expanding educational exchanges between the two countries and providing more opportunities for Cambodian youth to pursue higher education in China.

“The Chinese Embassy in Cambodia will continue to work with all relevant parties to create more opportunities for talented young Cambodians to study in China and build more bridges for mutual understanding and closer ties between our two peoples,” the ambassador underscored.

During the reception, student representatives, including two freshmen and two graduates, shared remarks and experiences. Admission notices were also presented to 10 student representatives who will pursue their studies in China.

The event featured an Apsara dance performance as well as performances by Cambodian students of two songs celebrating Cambodia-China friendship, reflecting the close cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The reception concluded with a luncheon for participating officials, students, graduates, and guests.
