(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on legislative institutions worldwide to stand united in defending international law and the rules-based international order, warning against a return to the “law of the jungle” where the strong prevail over the weak.

Samdech Techo delivered an opening address on Thursday (Aug. 27) at the Second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC-2), under the theme “Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts.”

“I am of the view that our law-abiding community should strive to pursue legal avenues to counter grey-zone tactics aimed at advancing territorial ambitions and forcibly imposing control over the sovereignty of other countries, in violation of international law,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

Addressing parliamentary leaders and delegates, Samdech Techo highlighted “Institutional Accountability and Legal Recourse” as a key priority, stressing that legislative institutions have an important role to play in ensuring that international relations are governed by law rather than force.

He urged parliaments to continue issuing strong joint statements, demonstrate unwavering solidarity, and collectively advocate for international law, diplomacy, open dialogue, and the rules-based international order.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen underlined that stronger parliamentary cooperation can help ensure disputes are resolved through law, diplomacy, and peaceful dialogue rather than coercion or force.
