(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen warned that the rules-based international order is being increasingly undermined and transformed by major powers into a political tool to serve their strategic interests.

Speaking at the opening session of the Second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC-2) in Phnom Penh on Thursday (Aug. 27), Samdech Techo underscored that the world has entered a perilous era defined by geopolitical volatility and a decline in moral leadership.

“What we once believed to be a rules-based international order has been trampled upon and reduced to a mere political instrument,” he said.

Samdech Techo urged leaders to assess global realities pragmatically, stressing the need to prepare for the worst while hoping for the best.

He also warned that humanity risks forgetting the lessons of the two World Wars and the principles established to prevent another global conflict.
