(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen warned that the consequences of war are no longer confined to countries directly involved in conflict, stressing that crises in one region can have far-reaching economic and social impacts across the world.

Samdech Techo delivered an opening address on Thursday (Aug. 27) at the Second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers' Conference (ISC-2), under the theme "Solidarity for Peace and Shared Prosperity: Strengthening International Law and Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts."

“Today’s reality reminds us that even if we merely sit and watch the flames of war in other regions, the smoke can still make us choke,” he said.

The Senate president noted that the economic consequences of distant conflicts increasingly cross national borders, pointing to rising fuel prices, disrupted export markets, and mounting inflationary pressures as examples of how war can affect countries far from the battlefield.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo also cautioned countries against fuelling existing conflicts or allowing themselves to become drawn into geopolitical rivalries among major powers.
