(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn warned that growing conflicts worldwide, including in the region, highlight the fragility of peace, with decades of development capable of being destroyed in a short time.

Speaking at the general discussion of the second Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC-2) on Friday morning (Aug. 28), the minister said conflicts can disrupt global supply chains, raise energy and food prices, affect trade and investment, cause displacement and deepen insecurity far beyond their immediate areas.

“No country, regardless of its size, wealth or power, can address these challenges alone,” he said, stressing that solidarity is a practical necessity, requiring countries to respect agreed rules, strengthen multilateral institutions and preserve peace.

Drawing on Cambodia’s own experience of nearly three decades of war and conflict, including the Khmer Rouge regime, Prak Sokhonn underscored the profound value Cambodia places on peace.

The foreign minister underscored that peace and prosperity are mutually reinforcing, with peace providing the stability necessary for sustainable development, while inclusive and shared prosperity helps strengthen the foundations for lasting peace.
