(Phnom Penh): The Royal Government of Cambodia formally lodged another strong protest against Thailand's further violations of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity along the border, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Friday (Aug. 28).

On 22 and 24 August 2026, Thai armed forces dispatched heavy machinery into Cambodian territory to construct an earthen trench in the Chouk Krous area of Thmar Daun village, Kork Morn Commune, Banteay Ampil District, Oddar Meanchey Province. This violation occurred in conjunction with the unauthorised visit of the Prime Minister of Kingdom of Thailand to the An Seh area of Cambodia's Preah Vihear Province on 23 August 2026.

The Royal Government of Cambodia strongly protested against the afore-mentioned activities, which constitute a clear violation of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as defined and delimited by the 1:200.000 scale maps produced by the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam and Article 5 of the MOU signed on 14 June 2000, as well as Item I (De-escalation Measures) of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee on 27 December 2025.

The Royal Government of Cambodia re-emphasized that it does not accept any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand. The aforementioned activities shall not prejudice the legal rights or position of the Kingdom of Cambodia with respect to its international boundary.

The Royal Government of Cambodia called on Thailand to cease such actions in the above-mentioned areas, as well as any other areas unlawfully occupied by Thai armed forces since last year, with a view to de-escalating the situation, fostering mutual trust, facilitating peaceful settlement of disputes, thereby restoring peace, stability and good-neighbourly relations along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

Cambodia reaffirmed its commitment to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand, as with all its neighbours, exclusively through peaceful means, in line with international law and existing bilateral agreements, while firmly upholding its principled position that borderlines must not be changed by force.
