(Phnom Penh): Heng Ratana, Director General of the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC), on Monday (Aug. 31) briefed military attachés and ASEAN observers on remnants of Thai military ordnance left on Cambodian territory during the 2025 conflict.

The briefing, held at CMAC headquarters, provided an overview of the impacts and challenges posed by unexploded ordnance and Cambodia's ongoing efforts to clear contaminated areas, protect civilians and support the safe return of displaced residents.

CMAC said its teams continue clearance operations in residential areas affected by the conflict, in line with an order from Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to prioritize safety and facilitate residents' return home. The remnants include cluster munitions, aircraft-dropped bombs, chemical-related ordnance, chemical weapons and drone-delivered munitions.

The two rounds of fighting in 2025 affected approximately 340 villages, 441,000 hectares of land and 91,000 families across Cambodia.
