(Phnom Penh): Cambodia’s social protection system covered 8.49 million people nationwide by the end of the first half of 2026, up from approximately 6.5 million at the end of 2023, reflecting a significant expansion in access to social assistance and benefits.

The expanded coverage provides more Cambodians with access to healthcare, livelihood support, and social benefits, contributing to poverty reduction, improved living standards, and greater resilience against economic and social risks.

The Royal Government has rolled out comprehensive and flexible social protection programmes tailored to the needs of different population groups, including vulnerable households and those facing economic hardship.

Social protection remains a key pillar of Cambodia’s approach to inclusive economic growth, poverty reduction, and human capital development, while helping households better withstand economic and social shocks.
