(Phnom Penh): Chinese investment in Cambodia reached approximately USD 1.5 billion in the first seven months of 2026, with most projects concentrated in the manufacturing sector, according to Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee.
Speaking at the China-ASEAN Business Leaders’ Summit on Tuesday (Sep. 1), Chea Vuthy said China remained Cambodia’s largest investment source, accounting for about 83 per cent of total investment in 2025.
Major Chinese-backed projects include factories producing medical packaging, tyres, auto parts, electrical and electronic equipment, as well as major infrastructure projects such as the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway and Siem Reap International Airport.
Chea Vuthy said the investments are creating jobs, boosting exports and strengthening Cambodia’s integration into regional supply chains. He underscored the importance of increasing local supplier participation, technology transfer, skills development, and value-added production.
He also underlined Cambodia-China cooperation under the Diamond Hexagon Framework, describing the growing investment relationship as a key pillar of bilateral economic ties.
