(Phnom Penh): Cambodia-Korea bilateral trade reached nearly USD 600 million in the first six months of 2026, an increase of 36.8 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Speaking at the 2026 Cambodia-Korea Alumni Reunion on Wednesday (Sep. 2), Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron said Korea has become one of Cambodia’s key strategic development partners, ranking third after China and Japan in development assistance over the past 27 years.

Cambodian exports to Korea rose 38.2 per cent to USD 209 million, while imports from Korea increased 36 per cent to USD 389 million during the first six months of 2026.

The minister called for stronger Korean investment in high-potential sectors, including modern agriculture, food processing, automotive manufacturing, electronics, and digital technology.

He underlined the importance of technology transfer, skills development, and stronger domestic value-added supply chains as Cambodia seeks to deepen economic cooperation with Korea and enhance its competitiveness.

The minister also highlighted opportunities under the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which can help expand trade and investment between the two countries.

He further pointed to the establishment of a Special Economic Zone for Korean Investors as an avenue to attract investment, facilitate technology transfer, and strengthen Cambodia's domestic production and supply chains.
