(Kampong Chhnang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet warned that frequent business closures could damage perceptions of Cambodia’s investment climate, stressing that attracting new companies must go hand in hand with helping existing investors operate successfully and sustainably.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 17) at the launching of the GAC brand production line in Kampong Chnang province.

“Granting licences is one thing, but helping businesses survive and succeed is crucial,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said.

He noted that companies carefully assess market conditions and their prospects before investing. Repeated closures, particularly involving international brands, could therefore create negative perceptions of Cambodia’s market and wider investment environment.

In this regard, Samdech Thipadei said the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) is assessing market demand across sectors to prevent overcapacity and excessive competition that could drive down prices or compromise quality.

As of July 2026, Cambodia had 3,357 registered factories, employing around 1.36 million workers with more than USD 28 billion in investment.
