(Kampong Chhnang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said expanding vehicle assembly in Cambodia helps reduce finished vehicle imports, retain foreign currency and create domestic economic value.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Sep. 17) at the launching of the GAC brand production line in Kampong Chnang province.
The premier said domestic vehicle assembly reduces Cambodia’s reliance on imported finished products while creating employment and giving Cambodian workers opportunities to acquire technical skills and experience with modern technologies.
“If we import, the money flows overseas. But if we assemble vehicles domestically, part of that money goes towards the salaries of our employees in Cambodia,” Samdech Thipadei said.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that vehicle assembly reflects Cambodia’s shift towards higher-value manufacturing, including electronics and automotive production, while strengthening the Kingdom’s role in regional supply chains.
