(Phnom Penh): Cambodia’s rice exports to the Philippines are expected to exceed 200,000 tonnes in 2026, bringing the fast-growing market closer to China as Cambodia’s leading rice destination.

Speaking to reporters at a rice purchase agreement signing ceremony between Cambodia’s CITY RICE Import Export and the Philippines’ DILAI TRADING on 14 September 2026, Commerce Minister Cham Nimul said shipments have surged from just a few thousand tonnes in previous years, with a new agreement signed to export another 10,000 tonnes.

Cambodia shipped 122,102 tonnes to the Philippines in the first eight months of 2026, while contracts for September-December are expected to lift the annual total to around 209,446 tonnes.

Cham Nimul described the Philippines as a major potential market, noting that the country imports up to three million tonnes of rice annually, providing significant room for Cambodia to expand its market share.

She attributed Cambodia’s growing presence to sustained efforts to promote the quality of Cambodian rice internationally, including its recognition as the World’s Best Rice seven times, alongside active market development by the private sector and the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).

Cambodia Rice Federation President Lay Chhun Hour said exports could eventually reach 300,000 tonnes if current momentum continues.

Overall, Cambodia exported 792,212 tonnes of milled rice worth USD 464.1 million in the first eight months and is targeting one million tonnes in 2026.
