(New York): Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn said restoring trust between Cambodia and Thailand requires concrete commitments and the full implementation of existing agreements.

Addressing the 81st UN General Assembly on Saturday (Sep. 26), Minister Prak Sokhonn said recent tensions had seriously eroded trust between the two countries, causing humanitarian and other consequences.

He called for the implementation of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, the Fuxian Consensus and the Joint Statement of 27 December 2025, including commitments to renounce the use of force, respect international boundaries and de-escalate tensions.

The minister also called for the prompt resumption of JBC surveying and border demarcation to address outstanding boundary issues in accordance with international law and existing agreements.

He further raised the situation of over 20,000 Cambodian civilians who, according to Cambodia, remain unable to return home, stressing that they "need and deserve to go home."

On the maritime dispute, the foreign minister said Cambodia remains committed to a peaceful settlement and noted Cambodia's initiation of compulsory conciliation proceedings under UNCLOS following Thailand's decision to terminate the 2001 MOU.

He said the conciliation process should serve as an opportunity to bridge differences, rebuild trust and strengthen peaceful bilateral relations.
