(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Minister of Post and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth said the ministry is developing a National Space Policy and a five-year Space Programme aimed at advancing Cambodia’s space sector and building a national space ecosystem.

Speaking at the Cambodia-Japan “Co-Creation” Networking Symposium and Business Matching on Tuesday (Sep. 29), Chea Vandeth said the initiatives are designed to lay the foundation for Cambodia’s space economy while supporting broader national development.

He said space technologies could contribute to economic development, environmental protection, improved public services, digital transformation and human resource development, while creating new opportunities for businesses.

The minister also highlighted Cambodia’s efforts to develop specialised human capital for the emerging sector. To date, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has provided master’s and doctoral scholarships to 48 Cambodian students to pursue space-related studies abroad.

The symposium, held in Phnom Penh, brought together approximately 150 government officials, business representatives, and national and international partners to strengthen Cambodia-Japan cooperation in space technology, research and related business opportunities.
