(Pursat): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Stung Pursat 1 Hydropower Dam helped prevent flooding in Pursat City this year, highlighting the project’s role in both water management and disaster prevention.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 1) during the inauguration ceremony of the official use of National Road No. 10 in Pursat province.

The premier said the Stung Pursat 1 reservoir, with a storage capacity of approximately 1.2 billion cubic metres of water, played an important role in containing rising water levels and protecting Pursat City from flooding.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei attributed the project to the Royal Government’s long-term infrastructure and water management policies.

He also noted that no flood-related deaths had been recorded in Cambodia this year and thanked local authorities and the armed forces for their efforts in assisting people affected by flooding.

According to the National Committee for Disaster Management, floods between September 8 and 30 affected 80,460 families and 68,334 homes nationwide.

Some 8,042 families were evacuated, while approximately 156,125 hectares of rice fields were inundated.
