(Pursat): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet rejected claims of a government cash shortage and urged the public not to panic or withdraw bank deposits, assuring them of the state's sufficient funds and a robust banking system.
Speaking on Thursday morning (Oct. 1) at the inauguration of National Road No. 10, Samdech Thipadei said some people had used the issuance of new 50,000- and 100,000-riel banknotes to spread claims that the government was printing money because of a cash shortage.
He advised the public not to be misled by false information as the new notes are intended to replace worn currency and strengthen security against counterfeiting.
