(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence (AI), saying people who know how to use it will have an advantage.
Speaking on Friday (Oct. 2) at a graduation ceremony for 2,573 Asia Euro University graduates in Phnom Penh, the premier said AI, data science, cloud computing and other emerging technologies are becoming key foundations of the global economy.
“Artificial intelligence is not here to replace humans, but people who know how to use AI will have an advantage over those who do not,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said.
He encouraged the use of AI in education but cautioned students and teachers against overreliance, stressing the need for independent research and information verification.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that Cambodia has no policy to restrict AI use but needs appropriate laws and policies to ensure its responsible and effective application.
Cambodia has also developed local AI-powered applications, including Fresh AI, which offers information-search and productivity tools for everyday tasks.
