(Battambang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that Cambodia is reforming and strengthening its defence sector to improve national security. He declined to provide further details, citing the confidential nature of internal military matters.
The premier spoke on Thursday morning (Oct. 8) while presiding over the graduation ceremony for 2,001 students at the University of Management and Economics in Battambang province.
“Significant reforms have been implemented within our military, but I will not comment further. These are internal military matters,” he stated.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that strengthening national defence does not signal an intention to engage in conflict, but aims to improve security, human resources and military technology.
He added that reforms cover military command structures, operational units and border defence forces, including consolidating overlapping departments to improve efficiency.
