(Battambang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet proposed that ASEAN Observer Teams (AOT) from Cambodia and Thailand witness future border demarcation efforts between the two countries.

The premier spoke on Thursday morning (Oct. 8) while presiding over the graduation ceremony for 2,001 students at the University of Management and Economics in Battambang province.

Samdech Thipadei underlined that demarcation must follow longstanding treaties and agreements through established joint mechanisms.

“I have proposed that, in the next demarcation, the AOTs from both sides join as witnesses to monitor the process,” the premier said.

He added that Cambodia has facilitated ASEAN and United Nations observer visits to assess border conditions.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to protecting its territorial integrity through legal mechanisms, existing agreements and peaceful diplomacy.
