(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined five priorities to enhance education and vocational training, strengthen human resources, and align skills development with labour market and technological requirements.
The premier on Thursday (Oct. 8) while presiding over the graduation ceremony for 2,001 students at the University of Management and Economics in Battambang province.
First, he urged the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to strengthen education from secondary to higher levels by updating curricula, teaching methods, and assessment systems, and to strengthen quality assurance and develop students’ practical, analytical, problem-solving, teamwork, and creative skills.
Second, he recommended integrating digital skills, artificial intelligence, data analysis, and emerging technologies into curricula and strengthening teachers' and lecturers' digital capabilities.
Third, he called for modernising education and vocational training to focus on high-demand skills and future industries and for stronger connections between classroom learning, practical training, and workplace experience.
Fourth, he encouraged the education and labour ministries to improve labour market data collection and analysis, including skills demand, wages, productivity, and employment trends, to better inform policy and career decisions.
Fifth, he called for closer cooperation among government institutions, businesses, and the private sector to identify workforce needs and develop human resource plans for the short, medium, and long term.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also encouraged greater private sector involvement in curriculum development, internships, practical training, and applied research to ensure education and vocational training remain aligned with business and production needs.
