(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet proposed transforming the Phnom Penh-Bavet and Ho Chi Minh City-Moc Bai expressway link into an economic corridor connecting factories, industrial parks, suppliers and markets in Cambodia and Viet Nam.
The premier spoke on Friday evening (Oct. 9) at the opening ceremony of the Cambodia-Viet Nam Business Forum 2026 at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, which he co-chaired with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
“Physical connectivity is only the first step. What we need to do next is turn road connectivity into production connectivity,” Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said.
He highlighted efforts to link the two expressways and include the Tan Nam-Meun Chey international border gate in cross-border transport agreements to facilitate trade.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also welcomed plans for a Cambodia-Viet Nam Joint Trade Committee and continued trade promotion cooperation for 2027-2028, supporting the shared goal of reaching USD 20 billion in bilateral trade.
