(Baku): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet outlined six key advantages of investing in Cambodia, encouraging Azerbaijani businesses to explore opportunities in the Kingdom and turn discussions into concrete investment projects.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet made the remarks at the Cambodia–Azerbaijan Business Forum, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday (Oct. 12).
The prime minister highlighted Azerbaijan’s strengths in energy, petrochemicals, renewable energy, agricultural technology, logistics and digital infrastructure, alongside Cambodia’s dynamic manufacturing sector, vibrant agriculture, a young and adaptable workforce, expanding clean energy adoption and preferential access to regional markets.
Samdech Thipadei outlined six key advantages Cambodia offers foreign investors:
1. Young and dynamic workforce: Around 60 per cent of Cambodia’s population is under 35, providing businesses with a young, adaptable and increasingly technology-savvy labour force.
2. Pro-business environment and incentives: Cambodia offers tax holidays of up to 12 years, 100 per cent foreign ownership and unrestricted remittance of profits or capital, supported by streamlined investment procedures through the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).
3. Government's Robust Support: The CDC provides investment aftercare services and regular consultation mechanisms, including the Government-Private Sector Forum chaired by the prime minister, and consultative dialogues between the CDC, foreign business associations and embassies to address business concerns and facilitate investment.
4. Strategic location and connectivity: Cambodia’s position within ASEAN offers access to regional supply chains and transport networks, while major infrastructure projects, including the ongoing construction of the Funan Techo Canal, are expected to further reduce logistics costs and optimise business operations.
5. Regional and global market access: As a member of ASEAN and a participant in RCEP, Cambodia provides extensive access to growing regional markets. Cambodia's bilateral FTAs with China and South Korea, and our Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with United Arab Emirates further amplify these advantages.
6. Renewable energy and green growth: The premier said Cambodia had achieved a 63 per cent renewable energy share as of July 2026 and aims to reach 70 per cent by 2030, alongside its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050. Hydropower, solar, and wind power are key components of this plan.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government’s commitment to supporting foreign investors through support and guidance mechanisms. He also underscored that closer cooperation between the public and private sectors would help unlock the full potential of Cambodia–Azerbaijan economic relations and build a dynamic, mutually beneficial partnership.
